Advanced Biomedical Scientist – Blood Transfusion

Matthew is a Healthcare Science section lead in Blood transfusion. He graduated from Sunderland University with a BSc (Hons in Biomedical Science. Matthew then started at Newcastle Hospitals as a medical laboratory assistant in 2012 before successfully gaining a trainee BMS post. He went on to complete his IBMS registration portfolio becoming a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.

Over the next few years, Matthew completed his IBMS Specialist Diploma in Blood Sciences, providing him the diversity to work in Haematology, blood transfusion and Biochemistry at a specialist level. As transfusion was always a one of Matthew’s passions he went on to successfully complete the BBTS specialist certificate in blood Transfusion. Matthew then completed his MSc (Hons) in Blood Sciences before working for County Durham and Darlington Hospitals as a section lead in Biochemistry in 2018. Naturally Matthew’s passion for blood transfusion drew him back to Newcastle in 2019 when he accepted a post as a section lead in Blood Transfusion.
