Amanda completed a BSc with Honours in Biomedical Science at Sunderland University in 1995 and began working as a trainee Medical Laboratory Scientific Officer (MLSO) in 1996, at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings, East Sussex. Amanda moved back home to the northeast to continue training at the RVI in 1998 and qualified as an MLSO1 in 1999.

Since then, she has gained a Senior Biomedical Scientist (BMS) role in 2003, and completed an MSc in Cellular Pathology in 2006.

Amanda works in the Electron Microscopy section of the department and became the Health and Safety Manager in 2016.

Amanda is currently undertaking the NEBOSH General Certificate in Health and Safety and also Part time Study of the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Ultrastructural Pathology.
